Background of the Study
Political mentorship has been identified as a key factor in the development of young women’s political careers, as it provides guidance, support, and the opportunity to learn from experienced political leaders. In Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State, mentorship programs have been established to help young women navigate the challenges of entering politics and developing their careers in public office (Adamu & Yusuf, 2023). These programs are particularly crucial in a political environment where young women face barriers such as gender bias, lack of resources, and limited access to political networks (Aminu & Sani, 2024). By examining the impact of political mentorship on the career development of young women in Dutse, this study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of mentorship in increasing women’s political participation and success in achieving leadership positions. It will also explore the types of mentorship programs available and the challenges faced by young women in accessing mentorship opportunities.

Although mentorship programs have been implemented, the extent to which they have positively influenced the political career trajectories of young women remains unclear (Bello & Haruna, 2025). This study aims to address this gap by appraising the impact of political mentorship on young women’s political career development in Dutse.

It will provide recommendations for improving mentorship programs to better support young women in politics. The findings will be useful for policymakers, political parties, and gender advocacy groups working to empower young women to engage in political leadership.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on Dutse Local Government Area and will assess the impact of political mentorship on young women’s political career development within this region. Limitations include the potential difficulty in measuring the long-term impact of mentorship and the small sample size of young women involved in mentorship programs.
